On June the 1st 2013 one currach will be launched at Coliemore harbour following a month long currach workshop in Dalkey, where a team have hand built the crafts lead by artist and boat builder Mark Redden. The project's aims are to highlight the inherent value and craftsmanship of the ancient Irish techniques of boat building. And also to keep the ancient link between the village and the island alive and visible through the iconic action of rowing across Dalkey Sound.

Mark Redden learnt the craft from Jackie Mons and Cork currach builder Padraig O Duinnin. Mark commented at East Wall in 2012 “As a physical thing the currach represents something more than a simple water-craft. It stands for the quality of ancient design, a legacy left to us by our forbearers and a resourcefulness applicable to today’s life.'
